This photograph is from California, taken in 1935 and printed in 1959 by Ansel Adams (1902-1984)

Adams was a photographer renowned for his clever use of light and contrast in black and white photographs.

His most famed shots tended to be landscapes of Yosemite Park, however, he was also a great lover of close up nature shots.

His unusual 1930s Grass and Pool photograph shows individual blades of grass (white) against a shallow pool of water (black) and is like no other of his shots.

An original gelatin silver copy of this photograph is currently on sale for $6,500.
